Our Story
Born from conviction, not charity
Arewa Fund began with a simple but powerful idea shared publicly on Twitter/X by Capt. Jamil (@CaptJamyl): what if a group of successful Northern Nigerians stopped waiting for government intervention and invested directly in the youth businesses shaping the region's future?
The response was immediate. Mohammed Jamal (@whitenigerian) joined the cause, and within days, a growing group of contributors pooled ₦99 million in personal capital — not as a donation, not as a grant, but as a structured investment. The Arewa Fund was born: a private co-ownership vehicle that partners with business owners, takes a stake, and expects returns.
This isn't empowerment theatre. It's a bet on Northern Nigeria's entrepreneurs — backed by real capital, professional governance, and the belief that when you invest in people who have skin in the game, everyone wins.
Our Model
The co-ownership cycle
Governance
Professional oversight, entrepreneurial freedom
The fund operates as a central entity with professional accountants, auditors, and governance systems ensuring every naira is tracked and every decision is documented. Business owners retain operational control — they run their companies. The fund provides capital, strategic support, and accountability.
Values
What drives us
Transparency
Public contributions, public updates, public accountability
Inclusivity
All tribes, religions, ethnicities. The only requirement: your business is in the North.
